VELVET REVOLVER's SCOTT WEILAND Enters Rehab - Feb. 7, 2008

BLABBERMOUTH.NET has received the following official statement from VELVET REVOLVER:

"Following VELVET REVOLVER's performance last night [Wednesday, February 6] in Los Angeles, lead singer Scott Weiland voluntarily entered a rehab facility. Tonight's San Diego show at the House of Blues has been postponed; the rescheduled date for San Diego is [to be announced]. VELVET REVOLVER deeply apologize to their fans and thank them for sticking by the group."

Weiland was arrested on November 21, 2007 when he crashed his car while driving on an L.A. highway.

He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs with a prior conviction, and with an allegation that he refused a chemical test as required by law.

According to MTV.com, Weiland has been arrested multiple times over the past decade for a variety of drug offenses in California and New York, and has spent time in jail on several occasions. He was arrested in 2003 in Hollywood after a traffic accident and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, though those charges were eventually dismissed after he successfully completed a drug rehab program and submitted to drug tests.

Weiland recently the Miami Herald to be on the lookout for a STONE TEMPLE PILOTS reunion in the months ahead. The band members are reportedly on good terms again after their less than friendly break-up in 2002, and Weiland told The Pulse of Radio a while back that he wouldn't rule out getting back together. "I think that there is always that distinct possibility," he said. "I have to say it would never come in the way of VELVET REVOLVER, but I don't think that the story has been completely told. I'm unhappy with the ending of the story."

Although he was supposed to perform with VELVET REVOLVER on January 20 at a party in Park City, Utah during the Sundance Film Festival, Weiland was a no-show for the gig. The vocalist's flight to Utah was diverted because of bad weather. The band carried on with the show, inviting audience members and singer Donovan Leitch to pitch in.

I'm sure his bandmates (esp. Duff) had a sitdown with to make sure things weren't getting too bad for him...at least he did it before anything worse happened...

Hope to hell it was just alcohol and not anything worse...

It could be something to help the disposition of his case, but fuck, this is a wicked disease. My thoughts are with him and his loved ones.

no wonder blabbermouth annoys me so much. look at the comments - just ignorant assholes with no comprehension of what addiction is like. The only one that made a certain amount of sense to me was some dude "MKultra13".
Although I only read the first page, but I imagine there are pages and pages of kids commenting, who have no idea what the fuck they are talking about, and just loving all this  Roll Eyes

and I won't come back to this thread. Go Peebs

Yeah alcohol's about as bad as anything else. Slash himself said that alcohol was harder to kick than drugs. Given all of Scott's past problems with drugs, I'm guessing that he's not going to rehab for just alcohol.

Alcohol is one of the hardest drugs to "kick". I've known several people that have given up the "junk", only to spend the rest of their life in the bottom of a bottle.

I knew I said I wouldnt be back  Laughing but I disagree Cousin it - I know a whole bunch of junkies (well ex-junkies but lets take one day at a time) who have never been drinkers and they don't turn to drink instead of drugs when they 'fall off the wagon' they go back to drugs - drink just doesn't DO it for them

Wow, at least he made the decision himself to enter rehab which shows he wants to get clean.

After the show last night I just happened to be walking along side the venue to the back the same time Scott was leaving through the side exit. He was with about three other people who were helping him walk since he seemed to be pretty drunk. There was a small flight of stairs that led out the exit that Scott stumbled a bit on while going down. I told him he put on a great show and and didnt get much of a responce. After that I got a little worried since considering his past he definately should not be drinking, assuming that was from acohol and and other things
Anyways I'm glad to see that he checked himself into rehab and I hope he can get himself clean again

Wow...I didn't know seeing a couple episodes of Dr. Phil made everybody pro's on addiction...

The whole "alcohol is harder to kick than heroin" or visa versa shit is stupid b/c it differs from person to person...I only meant to say that I hope its only alcohol b/c heroin could kill you with one bad reading on what you have...you think you have two grams of shit so you inject it all only to realize that the stuff is actually pure heroin...you're dead...

A hell of a lot more people die from complications associated with alcohol than heroin. That being said, they are both horrible addictions.

and you know this because?? you watch Dr Phil??? People dont inject stuff that is "pure" because nothing is pure in the first instance. some people know what they are doing and don't want to kill themselves, they want to get high
and I wont say anything more than to say, I know what I'm talking about (not that I'm bragging about that) and you dont know what you are talking about  Razz
walk in a junkies shoes for 10 years and you will then have a clue

I hate to be the stubborn skeptic of the group but can anyone find anything about this anywhere other than Blabbermouth? Theres nothing on the official site and Blabbermouth seems an odd source to give an exclusive press release to.

If it is true then I hope everything works out ok, and that it doesn't impact on the possibility of STP reuniting.

(Oh and on the subject of varying additions and their severity it depends entirely on the person. For people like Duff and Ozzy Osborune alcohol is definately more dangerous than heroin - both tried it and never got addicted (in Ozzy's case he flat out hated it), other people can become a junkie but never really drink much. And you can kill yourself with alcohol in one session - maybe not directly from alcohol poisioning but theres plenty of other effects like passing out and choking on your own vomit.

And with other drugs even experienced long-term users can't always be sure they're taking a 'safe' dose - it's possible if they always buy from one dealer who's reasonably reliable but most addicts will have a variety of dealers who themselves have a variety of sources and the purity can vary wildly between them. Unless you test it first you can never be entirely sure how much you've got.)

That's just what my uncle did. He got to where he almost never used heroin but he drank all of his waking hours. He died less than two years after he started drinking like that. Anyway, back to Scott. This just doesn't really look too promising for the future of VR. I personally would be much more optimistic if Mr. Weiland hadn't already been to rehab in the past so many times. At this point I'm just wondering why this trip to rehab would be any different for him, although I sure hope it is. I really do wish the best for him.
